St Luke’s Student Wins Public Speaking Trophy
Four talented St Luke’s students delivered compelling speeches in a bid to win the Lion’s Public Speaking trophy – a highly anticipated event highlight within the Lions Youth of the Year Program.
Hinkler Lions Club coordinated the event that started with each student sitting for a 30 minute interview in front of a panel of 5 judges. They then presented a 5 minute speech on a topic of their choice, and afterward were required to respond in detail to two questions.
In Samantha Keidge’s speech, she explored the negative impact that social media has on our society. Harrison Norris discussed the stigma that is associated with mental illness and depression. Abbey Thorne looked at corruption issues within charity organizations, while Dayna Williams invited her audience to ask more questions, since it is questions that can effectively change our mindset.
All four students were presented with a gift and certificate of participation by the Hinkler Lions Club, and it was Dayna William’s compelling speech about the power of questions that won her the Public Speaking Trophy prize.
