Students Take Part in Mosaic Turtle Art Project

St. Luke's Anglican School students have been getting their creative juices flowing for a community mural project featuring mosaic turtle art.

The Year 10 students worked alongside local artist Paul Perry to create a large scale mosaic for the Milbi Festival Magic Project at Archies Beach.

Principal Craig Merritt said the students made a small mosaic turtle and began marking out and cutting tiles for their design.

“The design being used in the resolved mosaic wall piece was created by Kalana Fraser, Isabella Gill, Jessica Hickey, Ella Jenkins and Ava Ryan,” he said.

“Paul Perry is an accomplished local artist and we are privileged to have him involved with St Luke's Anglican School.”

The creative process will go towards a mural in Bargara, to be made up of mosaic art created by the community.

It's the latest project from local artist Paul Perry who said his focus had been directed more towards community and public art projects and, in particular exploring, the medium of mosaics for this purpose.

“This resulted in a solo exhibition of mosaic panels inspired by graffiti tags seen around the Bundaberg area” he said.

“The exhibition Flushed Out: Street Art Meets Mosaics was held in a public toilet block in a prominent and popular beach side reserve.

“This has led to a number of commissions and the development of a major community art project creating mosaic murals for the external walls of this public amenity.”
