Principal's Reflection - 16 May

Welcome to the second Principal's Reflection for Term 2, 2025.

Christ Church Open Day

St Luke’s links with the Parishes of Bundaberg and West Bundaberg are an important part of the culture of our School. They are something we aim to deepen each year, along with our connections with Meilene Aged Care. Parents who attended Foundation Day celebrations last year would recall the story of how the Parish of Bundaberg supported the School in its early days. In essence, without the generosity, hard work and time committed by the Anglican Parishioners of Bundaberg, St Luke’s would simply not exist.

Tomorrow, Christ Church, the iconic building in the centre of Bundaberg, will hold an open day as part of the Hope 25 initiative. Next to Buss Park, Christ Church not only provides a central home for worship in Bundaberg, it is also home to a number of ministries that support those in need.

The event will include guided tours, children’s activities, the opportunity to try on church robes and music recitals. The Peace Bells will also be rung, and local historian Margaret Cooper-Smith will be on hand to tell the stories of the 235 Christ Church men who enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force during World War I.

Please see the flyer here for more information.

Appointment of Deputy Head of Primary - Teaching and Learning

It gives me great pleasure to share with our community that Mrs Natasha Higgins has been appointed as our Deputy Head of Primary - Teaching and Learning, joining Mrs Robinson and Mrs Baren in the Primary leadership team. Mrs Higgins was the standout candidate in our recent recruitment process, demonstrating not only a deep understanding of curriculum and pedagogy, but also an approach to leadership that fits very well with the St Luke's Way.

I know you will join me in congratulating Mrs Higgins, and we look forward to the contribution she will make to St Luke’s in this new role.

MMG Survey

As the School goes through a period of strategic renewal, it is very important to us that we gather information from all stakeholders. Last Friday, 9 May, all parents should have received an email from MMG Education inviting them to complete the whole school research survey. The School undertakes this survey only every 2 or 3 years, and the feedback our community provides is vital to the ongoing work of St Luke’s. It informs policies, practices, commitment of resources and budgets. In short, this survey is one of the most significant opportunities parents have to influence the future direction of St Luke’s. I hope you will contribute and I look forward to reviewing your feedback.

Day After Show Holiday

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and students that Friday 30 May is a normal school day. In years when the School holds a Community Fair, we traditionally have the day after Show Day as a day in lieu because of the expectation that students attend school on a Saturday. There is no Community Fair this year, and so Friday 30 May is a school day. It is an exciting school day too! Not only is it Under 8’s Day, but there is plenty of assessment scheduled for this day.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our School.

Mr Matthew Hughes

Principal
