Short-Term & Long-Term Homestay
Experience international cultures, make life-long friendships with overseas families, promote the Bundaberg region and earn a little extra income in the process.
During the 2017 school year it is expected that St Luke’s will commence the enrolment of students from both Japan and China into short term (2 week) and longer term (10 week) study tours and immersion programs where the overseas students will attend St Luke’s whilst also conducting organized tours of local points of interest and tourist attractions. Apart from the immediate benefits to the SLAS community there are also broader ramifications for tourism and trade relates aspects for the Bundaberg region as a whole. Some of these students may also choose to return and attend the likes of CQU.
For the duration of their stay in Bundaberg, we’re hoping to place the students with current or past SLAS families whereby the students pay a weekly Homestay fee to the Homestay families. Based on the current arrangements this will be an amount of $250/wk. This constitutes an ability for our current students to experience different nationalities, establish long term friendships with international students and their families and also obtain a little additional income at the same time. It may be that St Luke’s can utilize the Homestay income as a credit against school fees for the relevant families if they currently have students at St Luke’s.
For any interested families, if you have a spare room or the ability to take on an international student for a short or longer term stay, we need to commence the process of the collection of a database of interested families willing to accept students prior to the first group arriving in Term 3. All family members over the age of 18 in the household will need to be Blue Card compliant but the school can assist with the registration process. The registration will be at a cost of $84.25/registration to the Homestay family and the registration process will need to commence early in Term 2 to be in place for when the first group of students arrive.
